Dear
_____,
Thank
you for being such a strong supporter of Ag Education!
As you know I have been directing the Central Valley Ag Literacy
Program at California State University, Fresno and appreciate your
support in this area.
We
were fortunate to receive a California Agricultural Technology
Institute/ Agricultural Research Initiative Grant to help 7th–
12th grade students gain a greater awareness of the role of
agriculture in the economy and society so that they may become citizens
who support wise agricultural policies.
The specific goal of this project is to increase the level of
agricultural education comprehension among elementary and secondary
students. To accomplish
this, agriculturally related curriculum must be aligned to the state
standards. I
am inviting you to become a part of this process.
On
Saturday, November 2, 2002 (from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.), you, along with other educators,
will be shown how to align agricultural curriculum to the state core
curriculum standards. Lori
Mann, a
consultant from the Bay Area, will help us with a simplified, yet
helpful, process. You will
be asked to take the agriculturally related materials home and continue
the process of aligning them to the standards.
In the spring we will come together as a group for another
Saturday meeting to continue the alignment process.
At this time we will also discuss and evaluate the format,
materials, and information gathered throughout the year.
You will be paid $500 (at the end of the project) for assisting
with this task.
Lunch
will be provided and parking will be relaxed.
Mileage will be reimbursed if you live outside Fresno County.
I
certainly hope you are interested in helping with this valuable project. Please call me at either 559.278.4559 (California State
University, Fresno) or 559.436.1447 (home) or email (lonna_torrico@csufresno.edu)
me to confirm your participation immediately. Thanks again for being such a good friend to agriculture!
Sincerely,
Lonna
Torrico
